The Ideaterrazas WAGC Andalucía circuit visited Atalaya Golf & Country Club on 15 July 2026, and the venue’s celebrated Old Course decided which players move on to the regional final. For anyone unfamiliar with the format, the WAGC — World Amateur Golfers Championship — is an international amateur competition played in stages: local qualifying rounds feed a regional final, the regional final feeds a national final, and the best players from there go on to represent Spain at the world final. The Andalusian edition runs under the Ideaterrazas name, and this stop was one of the marked dates on its summer calendar.
A qualifying round on the Old Course at Atalaya Golf
The tournament was played across five handicap categories, so golfers of very different levels could compete on equal terms. The rule for the day was simple: the top two finishers in each category would book their place in the regional final. That put a healthy dose of pressure on every card handed in at Atalaya Golf, from the opening tee shot to the final putt, and it showed in the concentration out on the course.
Who advanced to the regional final
Ten players achieved the goal. These were the champions and runners-up in each category:

- Category 3: Amir Ali Shaerzadeh Samie, followed by Nina Phillimore

- Category 5: Mario Carpintero Ciudad Real, followed by Antonio Alcalá Contreras

The road ahead: Cabopino, Madrid and Malaysia
The qualifiers now turn their attention to the regional final, scheduled for 14 August 2026 at Cabopino Golf in Marbella. From there, the path continues to the national final on 4 and 5 September 2026 at Retamares, in Madrid, where the five players who will represent Spain at the world final in Malaysia will be decided. In other words: a good round played at Atalaya Golf this July could end, a few months later, with a boarding pass to the other side of the world. That long horizon is a big part of what makes this circuit so appealing to amateur golfers.
