Cathedral of the Incarnation of Malaga
Also called the Holy Cathedral Church Basilica of the Incarnation, the Cathedral of Malaga is a very important symbol for Malaga, and not only for its religious symbolism, but also for its relevance and artistic importance.
BRIEF HISTORY
It is located just on the site of the first Aljama Mosque, and it was the place where the Catholic Monarchs ordered the temple to be erected after the conquest in 1487. However, the beginning of construction did not begin until 1528, ending it in 1782, although in reality, the work was never completed, since it lacks the top of the main facade and the south tower. The fact that it has taken so long to build, implies that it has been done in different styles ranging from Gothic, Renaissance or Baroque. Without a doubt, it is a building with a very unique appearance. It is located in the Plaza del Obispo, the most baroque place in the city of Malaga and one of its most important and picturesque squares.

EXTERIOR OF THE CATHEDRAL
You could spend hours contemplating the facade of this wonderful temple, especially for its complex and elaborate baroque composition. On the facade you can see the two towers that flank a central body with two floors and three streets that are divided by columns. The north tower has an elevation of 87 m high, which makes it the tallest cathedral in Spain. The south tower is not because it was never built, despite having been planned by Diego de Siloé, that’s why the Cathedral is called ‘La Manquita’. On the other hand, the two faces of the Cathedral have one door each: in the north we find the Puerta de las Cadenas and on the south facade the Puerta del Sol.
